Data collection for the first edition of the Grandir en qualité survey was conducted in the spring of 2003. The selected childcare establishments responded to the mobilization efforts made, leading to excellent response rates.
The overall survey response rate was 87.8% and varied based on the types of establishments covered by the survey. In childcare centres, this rate stood at 97.6% for groups of infants (under 18 months of age) and 96.5% for groups of children of preschool age (18 months to 5 years). In private day care centres (both subsidized and unsubsidized), it stood at 90.3% for groups of infants and at 82.1% for groups of children aged 18 months to 5 years. As for home childcare operations, the response rate was 76.5%.
The strong participation of the selected establishments ensured the representativeness of the various types of childcare settings as well as the quality of the data obtained.
These results led to the publication of a report and three fascicles containing highlights on each of the three types of childcare establishments assessed in 2003.
